How can an A* become a C!!

My friends son received an A* in Biology and Chemistry in his A level mocks. His results came back as C. How does this happen? I used to be an A level teacher a decade ago so I know I’m out of touch but I can’t get my head around it. Straight A student all through his time at school. The school he attends is is very poorly performing, fairly deprived area. Is it the algorithm or the school. I feel so sorry for him and the others in this position.

Good Law Project are collating evidence for a legal challenge. It's indirect discrimination. They asked for people for whom similar had happened and have been inundated

Unfortunately that’s your answer, such a disgraceful system. I hope he appeals and gets his As 🤞🏾

A level marking has been a complete shambles for years IME.
There has been a lot of discussion on the education boards about it.

I'm watching this from Scotland and I know our system is screwed up too but I'm open mouthed with disbelief every time I see a story like this. Kids getting strong As and Bs and then being given a failing grade or a C.

And now they've closed the appeal procedure or something?

It wont help in his immediate future but at least there are legal challenges starting. Get in on one of those.
