St Paul's Cathedral School - how good?

Am considering this school for DD1 who is bright and bubbly and who is musically aware. Visited school and children seemed very alert and happy and head was pleasant. However, other schools out there could fit this bill - is there anything particularly good (I expect the music) about this school?
Would it be fair to compare with good state schools?

We contemplated it for DS1, but then moved house, so it's too far for him to go to school there now. I met someone four years ago at an NCT coffee morning whose son was there and (apart from the fact he boarded) she was very happy with the school. This was my main concern about the school actually, if we had sent DS1 there - if for some reason he turned out to be good enough to be a chorister I think they have to board. He sings Bob the Builder enthusiastically but out of tune so this might be a misplaced concern

I liked the fact that they were a school right in the middle of London and made the most of that.

Remember you get very different school holidays there, so if there are other DCs who would be at another school this might be tricky.

I know the cathedral choir is one of the best in the country. But it is all boys

3 out of 4 of mine are choristers and they don't board - but it might be different at St Pauls

Majorca, DD1 is 4 - has already started at another school but we seriously considered St P a while ago. She was invited for interview but the date was during the week that I gave birth to DD2 and we did not feel ready for it. Will consider it for age 7 entry which would coincide with DD2 starting school.
