Coronavirus and schools

I am sorry to post about something so obvious and maybe already discussed. But I am moving to London soon with my 13' year old DD and I am concerned about the possibility of schools not opening. I don't find any thread about this. Does it mean that schools will be open for sure? 🧐

In England it’s not clear at the moment. The suggestion is they will open maybe. In Scotland however they are definitely opening next week. Perhaps the English are looking to see how things go in Scotland.

The current plan is that all schools will be open for all pupils in September. There is no 'maybe' at the moment. Not saying that the situation won't change but that is the plan.

Coronavirus UK: Boris Johnson says he would close shops and pubs ahead of schools

Published on Aug 9, 2020 Evening Standard

Boris Johnson has called getting all children back in class a "moral duty" amid indications he would force pubs, restaurants and shops to close ahead of schools if there are severe coronavirus flare-ups.

The Prime Minister is understood to favour only closing schools as the last resort after scientific advisers warned more restrictions may be needed to reopen classrooms in England next month.

Children’s commissioner for England Anne Longfield had said the reopening of schools “should be prioritised”, insisting they must be first to reopen and last to close during any reintroduction of restrictions.

But schools minister Nick Gibb said this week that the Government cannot “decree” that classroom education would be prioritised, instead saying decisions would be made by local health chiefs.

COVID and Kids: The Back-to-School Debate

Published on Aug 9, 2020 by Stansberry Research

USA video but generalities widely applicable.

Health and Wealth Bulletin’s Amanda Cuocci breaks down COVID’s risk to kids, and how it’s shaping the back-to-school debate.

UK Government is clear - all schools will be open - with Risk assessments in place.
Most schools working in 'bubbles' - if CoVid detected the bubble closes for 2 weeks and school switches to generally online / live streaming if private school, or basic learning pack if state school.....

I’m a teacher in London and we’re planning for a normal start in September (albeit with staggered start and end times and slightly different arrangements for lunch). Things could of course change but that’s the plan at the moment.
