Hi I hope I’ve posted this in the right place. My DH has just had a successful interview for a job in Basel, Switzerland. We have a 6 year old girl (7 in Oct) and an 11 year old girl (was 11 in June) None of us speak German but we’re looking forward to learning.
I’m finding the schooling system hard to understand! For the 6 year old would it be best to hold her back a year whilst she gets to grips with the language then start her into local school? And for the 11 year old does anyone have any experience/recommendations/advice? Should we be trying to get her into private school/international school? She’s very academic and we don’t want her to miss out going to university because of the language barrier. I’m more worried about her than our younger DD.
I’d be grateful for any advice at all. My DH has been trying to get a job in Switzerland for nearly 10 years and now he finally has we’re all a bit scared!

Sending your 6 yo to school is the quickest way to get her fluent in German.

Thank you 😊 Do you have any suggestions for our 11 year old? I would like her to integrated well into Swiss life but at the same time don’t want to ruin her changes of being able to go to university
