Affordable Online schools

Hello Moms, am relocating to UK due to a nasty divorce that is still ongoing. I have two amazing boys (9&11), coming from an international school. The father of the kids doesn't want to pay for anything, I don't have a job yet and I need to find a good online school for my two boys. I have checked Interhigh, but outside of my budget. Can anyone recommend me an even more affordable school for my two boys, please? TIA

Why does it have to be online? State schools are free.

MaFerLu · 21/07/2020 20:05

Because for the moment i am not a resident and therefore am not entitle to apply for it

Once you have a UK address you can apply for a school and the council will have to find you somewhere. You don't need to be a resident. Although presumably you must be entitled to come here anyway if you don't yet have a job?
You cannot apply for a school without an address though.

gooseberrycake · 22/07/2020 07:20

That's not necessarily true - in our LA they won't let you apply until you're resident, regardless of whether you have a UK address. You should hopefully be able to secure a school place pretty quickly once you arrive though - is it really worth applying to an online school?

Hercwasonaroll · 22/07/2020 07:21

When will you be moving? I'd just enrol them in a state school once you arrive.

Am sorry ladies, please do not think that am a clingy inmigrant...but I am actually entering Uk in a tourist visa. Friends of mine live there and they offered us housing and to lok after us while i try to recover and i apply for a job eithe rin Uk or outside. I undertand that i cant change the status of my visa while in country, but i am entitled to stay in Uk for six months. I dont want to live of the welfare or seek assylum as am not an extreme case...am planning to buy our own health insurance, get a school and hopefully find a job to re start my life again. You see, i was living in another country as an expat with my family when my soon to be ex husband decided to go crazy and moved to another country with aother woman and took all our savings, not only that, but when COVID hit the world I ended up without a job. So am selling my entire household to get enough money to be as much as stable possible with my two boys. As we were offered housing and food and they are the godparents of my kids...is more than a blessing for us.

Please ladies, I know that many of you would criticize my decision, but be kind and understand that my situation is not easy. Returning back to my country was never an opinion as my poor country has terrible economic situation and I have been an expat almost all my life...sometimes life testes you as is happening to me.
I am an trainer for parents with children with autism, I had run a successful business of music activities for early childhood and I had worked as a consultant in various projects....so I have faith that ill get back on track.
Am asking for advice as my kids had a very good level of life and great education, I just for the moment cant afford it but I need to continue providing the best affordable education possible.

Thanks for reading me, did not mean to cause pity or anything and I appreciate your support.

We will be arriving at Windsor

The issue op is that you cannot get work if you have a tourist visa. Employers have to check your papers before employing you and can get very large fines if you aren’t entitled to work here.

The only work you would possibly get would be illegal, under the counter stuff, with poor conditions and poor pay.

thatistheway · 27/07/2020 18:53

Do not do this.

Being an immigrant in the UK is not great.
I speak as someone who with my husband were both skilled migrants.

They change regulations when they want.
You have a good character test.

You need a lawyer for nearly everything as you can't afford to make any mistake.

I would not put children who do not have a chance of getting a British passport through this system. There is still an incredibly hostile environment both socially and especially via the UK govt.

We are stuck here because my husband employs others and has investment here.
Also you can't change visas from a tourist to another type.

Think very carefully.

You send vulnerable.

thatistheway · 27/07/2020 18:54

Sound not send.

Also speak to an immigration lawyer before you come here.

I am sure someone will give you a quick low down without charge.

spanieleyes · 27/07/2020 20:48

Regardless of your immigrant status, your children will still be eligible for state school.

CatToddlerUprising · 27/07/2020 21:06

I thought if you were on a standard visitor visa (6 months) then you can only study for up to 30 days and only if not at a state school

CatToddlerUprising · 27/07/2020 21:07

To comply with their visa terms, foreign national children and young people (including EEA nationals entering the UK after 31 December 2020) who are entering on a Tier 4 child or Tier 4 student visa must, when accessing education in England, study at the independent school, sixth form college or further education college which is sponsoring them.

Foreign nationals cannot use the 6 month visitor visa or a 6 month short-term study visa to enter the UK to enrol as a pupil at a school. Find out what these visas can be used for on the visitor visa and short term study visa pages.
