Girls' Houses - RUGBY SCHOOL

Hi there,

Can anyone give some insight into girls' houses at Rugby School? I have seen a few but can't make a clear choice. So much depends on the HM. We need to find a house where the HM is above all things, kind, caring, supportive and approachable - the other facts about the house are immaterial. She has to spend 5 years there so I do feel that the house is important as it will be her home from home.

Can anyone with DDs at Rugby give some advice? Or even ask their DSs about which girls' house they like the best - the influence of the HM affects the way that the girls develop in terms of attitude and behaviours as far as I can tell - so perhaps the boys may have a view on this.

Thank you - look forward to hearing from you!

Tudor is the best, but I am not sure how long Mrs H will be there until she retires. I expect whoever takes over though eventually will be much along the same lines, and hopefully she'll do many more years anyway!

Rupert Brooke is a close second IMO.

PM me if you like.

We looked round Rupert Brooke when we visited Rugby, and the HM was lovely (and the food was amazing). I honestly couldn't fault anything I saw.

We wanted to see some of the other Rugby houses (Tudor in particular) to compare, but Covid put paid to that.

Have seen a number of other schools since and RB still the nicest boarding house we've seen.

@OhCrumbsWhereNow it's good you got to see Rupert Brooke and love the set up there.

Presuming you are looking for 2021/2?

If I were you, I'd put Rupert Brooke down if you loved it rather than stress yourself too much about seeing all of the houses. Remember, the HM chooses the girl and both these houses are incredibly popular choices, so you would be lucky to get either.

If you liked the HM - and the food - and you feel your daughter would be happy there - go for it. We're not even sure how current parental visits are going to work next term instead of exeats, let alone prospective family visits so you're probably not going to be allowed to look around anytime soon sadly.

And all the girls (and boys we know) say they are the best two. The RB girls think they have the edge, and the Tudor girls think they do 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hello. Looking for advice.

Rugby (Bradley) vs: Oundle (New House) for DD for Year 9... . Does anyone have an opinion on these schools (or houses)?

My daughter is keen on dance, photography/film making and writing as activities outside of class. She is an academic all-rounder and plays tennis and netball as her main sports. Thanks!
