Aldenham School

Hello, We are considering this school for our DD -11+ entry. Does anyone have any experience/knowledge of this school? Im interested to know particularly how girls find it as I believe the intake is 70% boys. Thank you. smile

We decided against it for DD as it felt really too boy heavy. It still feels like the boys school it used to be. Friends with sons there are extremely happy and our current prep is a feeder - so that’s quite a lot. Not one girl has gone there from our prep since it went co-Ed, even if they have a brother there. There could be less than 20 girls in each year group and that’s really not a lot from which to “find your tribe” at secondary level.

Our current school is boy heavy though and it has never been a problem so if you’re fine with that then it shouldn’t be an issue in itself. I was more worried about the very “London” vibe. It’s relaxed but quite monied and there are a lot of parties etc. They are teenagers and it’s perfectly normal but it does feel like somebody has something arranged pretty much all the time. Kids are happy there though and it’s a fab all round school.

Parents who want the Aldenham feel for their daughter but true co-Ed choose Haileybury at our prep.

Would second this. Didn’t move our DD from prep to senior due to the small number of girls and worried that a small cohort with a couple of characters could make things hard. Having said that I can’t fault the school. It’s a very very special place.

It’s a wonderful school.

Considered as a sixth form option for DD but as a boarder with family living abroad she would have very likely been the only British full boarder amongst Russians and Chinese so we discounted.
