Free laptop from school for vulnerable children

Does anyone know much about these?

I have been told today that my daughter is getting a laptop from school as she is classed as vulnerable (adopted) and I am picking it up in a few days.

Whilst this is great, I am have not seen much about this and wondered if they are to keep permanently or to go back to school when they reopen properly? She is attending school currently so it isn't even needed for school work.

If I say we don't need it would it be offered to someone who could actually make use of it?

I would have thought they would have checked whether you needed one beforehand. If you don't need it, I would let them know as hopefully there will be someone else who could use it.

For our school they remain the property of the LA. If you don’t need one there will be plenty of others who will make use of it.

Although you might want to be prepared for online learning in the future and for local lockdowns happening intermittently- she may not always be able to be in school.

In our local authority the laptops become the property of the school who have requested them for specific pupils who meet the set criteria. We are receiving some this week. All the children who we applied for are now in school full time so we are keeping them in school for them to use. If we go to part time schooling they will be loaned out.
They would have been more useful 12 weeks ago!

Thank you for your comments.

I just didn't want to seem ungrateful for the offer. Neither of the kids is able to work independently and we have a laptop and my husband and I both have kindles as does our eldest (youngest is getting one for her birthday). My husband is WFH but has a work laptop for that anyway.

I will have a chat when I pop in, but feel a bit better about not taking it if I don't have to Smile
