Return to school at independent schools

Newuser82 · 17/06/2020 07:29

Hi, we have just had an email from our child’s independent school to say our year 3 son (along with years 2,4 and 5) will only be offered 3 hours schooling a day, mornings. Just wondering what other independent schools are offering. Thanks

What before the summer? Don’t you break up end of next week?

That sounds like a lot for year 3 at the moment given the situation.

Zodlebud · 17/06/2020 07:35

Year Two back full time from tomorrow. Other year groups not already back will be back on a part time basis from next week with the focus on fun, socialising and closure of the school year. More than a handful of children are not returning in September due to financial reasons and parents want them to say proper farewells. Same goes to the Y8 children.

Annebronte · 17/06/2020 07:36

We’re having years 2-6 (don’t have younger years) pretty much full time. A week has been added to the end of term too.

Theredjellybean · 17/06/2020 07:39

Yr 12 dd and yr10 dgodd... Not back at all.

School providing full online taught school day though.

They say they cannot have them back as half the Yr are overseas and would need online school and now only 2 weeks left.

Its OK but just had letter saying fee increase next year...

Newuser82 · 17/06/2020 07:46

They break up the beginning of July usually but we have also had an extra week added on. They will do mornings at school then continue homeschooling in the afternoon

Dd is y5 and goes back tomorrow. They will have three weeks before the end of term. Full days and I am assuming full weeks but they've not actually said!

zafferana · 17/06/2020 07:48

I have a Y4 DC and so far we've been offered no time in school at all. I spoke to the head last week and he said they are hoping to open to more year groups before the end of term. Y2 go back today. So far no news on Y3, Y4 and Y5 and only 3.5 weeks until the end of term.

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 17/06/2020 07:48

No capacity our school has said when pushed. The school is huge! They didn’t even send out a communication following the recent announcement. Not happy.

purpleboy · 17/06/2020 08:28

Yr12 dd is going in for 1 day to fill out UCAS forms, nothing for yr 2 dd. We break up in 3 weeks so can't really see it happening.

If there’s physical space, there’s no excuse. We’ve split junior forms in two and moved them into spaces usually occupied by senior students. Lots of independents go from 6-18, so it really should be possible.

Yes, they do have space so unsure of the reasoning. We are going to enquire with the school.

My Y10 is getting 1 afternoon between now and the end of term, just 1, not 1 a week. Next week is exam week too!
To be fair she does have a full online interactive timetable and we have had a reasonable discount.
I think YR, 1 and 6 are in full time with Y2 joining soon

thereinmadnesslies · 17/06/2020 09:10

All year groups have had remote teaching by zoom to their usual timetables. R, Y1 and Y6 had the option of going back after half term but only to be supervised doing the zoom lessons. Other year groups y2-y5 are getting one session in school before the end of term. Y9-12 are not going back in the building at all this term.

Michaelahpurple · 17/06/2020 10:06

Op I think you are well ahead.

I have yr 9 and 12 and it still isn't clear that they will be going back in September let alone now

vinoandbrie · 17/06/2020 10:14

My Y1 is back in full time and has been since 8 June - I’m unsure why they didn’t get themselves organised for 1 June.

Just been confirmed today that my Y5 is getting no time at all back in school ahead of breaking up for summer hols on 7 July. I’m really disappointed. She needs it for her wellbeing more than anything else.

myself2020 · 17/06/2020 14:29

Ours are fully back. days are about 45 -25 minutes shorter for the younger year groups to enable staggered pick up (with year 5 and 6 having the longest days and normal hours, nursery the shortest), but otherwise notmal timetable

myself2020 · 17/06/2020 14:31

Ours had a full zoom time table until end of last week (nursery, reception, y1 and y6 until the 1st), now they have a full time table in school, but the specialist teachers still teach vis zoom on the class whiteboard (and the TA is there to help)

Pipandmum · 17/06/2020 14:51

Our school has been doing online learning g fill time, but are keen to get kids back asap. R, Y1 and 6 were back from June 1, Y10 and 12 doing 1 day a week. The rest of the junior school will start back, staggered, from next week. The issue are getting everyone in the door with temperature checks, hand washing etc. But we have space.
For the senior school the restrictions are tighter and the fact they are taught different subjects by different teachers in different rooms with different equipment makes logistics tricky but they are working on it.

Pipandmum · 17/06/2020 14:53

Oh and they extended the term by two weeks as well.

Niceproblemtohave · 17/06/2020 16:20

We are the same although it's 4 hrs per day with homeschooling in the afternoons. I'm really happy with this as just thankful they are going back at all - and the planned programme looks good.

Devlesko · 17/06/2020 16:23

Ours is closed to day students and boarders, until at least September, have been told it could be November or even as late as January for the boarders.
They have had a full time table from day one though, everything is the same, just online.
The age range is 8 - 18, and Y6 day students went back pt last monday.

refusetobeasheep · 17/06/2020 20:52

Ours is pulling back year 2 and 5 tomorrow, all other remaining years next week. So everyone gets 2 weeks back before the summer holidays kick in .

zafferana · 18/06/2020 07:46

We heard yesterday that years 3, 4 and 5 will be getting one day a week for the final three weeks of term. I do think it's unfair that R, 1 and 6 have had six weeks of schooling while the other year groups have been offered so little, or in many cases nothing Sad

orangeicecream · 18/06/2020 08:18

My school is having all year groups back as of next Tuesday. Not sure whether full or part time.

ellie2201 · 18/06/2020 12:47

Two more year groups next week, then whole school back for last two weeks of term.
