School won't be inviting yr6 back after 26 June

So yr 6 back from 1 June but lots of parents haven't sent them. Letter received that school won't be taking yr 6 after 26 June as they will need the teachers/classrooms to accommodate other year groups.

Makes sense to me, I never understood why yr 6 were a priority, as they would usually only be doing transition activities which are not possible, but how does this fit with govt announcements?

Head teacher here. The govt announcements are guidance only and all the schools I know are struggling to manage to do everything that parents were told we’d do!
I have only keyworker children and my vulnerable children in school and have places for about 10 more children.
I’m hoping to offer a weekly place session to my nursery children. It’s very unlikely I’ll have reception, year 1 or year 6 in at all.

Where I live the transition activities are going ahead so ds gets visits to his high school and also special things to make leaving primary school special. The same for the nursery kids going to primary.

Yes it's up to the school. Ours is taking more key worker children across all years but not year sixes (unless they're key worker children). Which actually makes more sense to me as if you need to go to work it's not much help if your year 6 can go to school but your year 4 (for example) can't.

This does mean that our year 6 DS hasn't got a place and there are no transition activities planned by the primary school and just some online videos from the secondary so I am a bit worried about hope he'll feel starting a new school in Sept.
