parent governor statement - any help gratefully received

i'd dearly love to be a school governor at my ds1's school, but the form has a space for 'brief personal details' max 80 words which will go out to parents if there's an election.
so far i've thought of including my children's ages and that i used to be a teacher, but after that i'm stumped. the reasons i want to be a governor are a little selfish - i believe in 'doing my bit', but i'd also like to gain an insider's perspective of the school because i think it may help my son who has special needs.
if you have any ideas i'd be most grateful

you need to think long and hard about your reasons for doing this

it is not an easy role, nor in my experience is it even an interesting one nor one that enables you to get things done

but if you are sure you want to do that I'd definitely talk about your children and their years that you used to be a teacher and what you would like to see happening in the school .. where your special interests lie .. for me it was rounding out the curriculum

oh and talk to people in the playground and tell them you're running ... I really think in the end people vote for the people they know so if you're friendly in the playground and people know who you are you'll stand more chance

why don't you start by asking to speak to the Chair of Governors and ask how they view the role
