hello Smile

We're moving to the Skipton area (when we can!) and was wondering if anyone could recommend a private school for my 9yo daughter and 13yo son?

Thanks!

have a look at woodhouse grove. They have a prep and a secondary so both your son and daughter could attend the same school. it is (according to google maps) a 37 minute drive from skipton x

Bradford Grammar School is a popular choice and has a good reputation. They have a Junior as well as Senior School.

Bradford Grammar is the more academic, Woodhouse Grove the more "all-rounder". Bradford is a bit of a nightmare to get to as it's on the edge of central Bradford and traffic is appalling. WG has a bit of a reputation as good for Tim Nice But Dim types. There is an entrance exam but if you can pay and you seem like the right sort you're in. But it is fine for bright kids too, just not a hot house.

Hipperholme Grammar (in Hipperholme, Halifax).
North Halifax (not fee paying but requires an entrance exam).
Not sure if crossley heath still exists but many years ago, the entrance exam for there was linked to the exam for North Halifax, as in they used the one exam result for both schools.

Not sure if GSAL is doable from that distance but it's got a great reputation.

Gsal is miles away from Skipton.

CheriLittlebottom · 04/05/2020 21:52

I know but it depends what you're willing to do. Some people travel miles & miles for the right school.

CheriLittlebottom · 04/05/2020 21:57

25 miles Skipton to GSAL according to Google.

Giggleswick? Sedbergh if you want boarding or don't mind a trek in.

If you’re prepared to split them up then there’s always Skipton Girls High as a state grammar option for your daughter. You’d obviously need a primary option pending this.

Crossley Heath and North Halifax are Grammar schools so 11+ needed. Neither of them are Private. They are also a very long way from Skipton
Hipperholme Grammar is the same

If relevant, seems Woodhouse Grove are trying to move into decent tennis provision.
