Great Day

Just to redress the ballence a bit regarding how tough teaching can be .....

I have had the best day ever. Kids were great, subjects I was teaching were interesting. Kids asked and answered some amazing questions. And my Year 9 class managed to grasp energy transformations last two lessons on a Friday, which was nothing short of a miracle! Some of them even thought!!!!!!

Days like this I should take the pay.

It was such fun today. I just wish that my 'difficult' classes could realise that if they behaved a bit better we could all have fun!

The bit that realy made me chuffed was when I was teaching Y10. I had done the same lesson on Wedneday with a different set. I asked them to do something as a demo and one of them said, 'Oh yes, the other class told us about this, it is great'. I almost fainted with pleasure! That kids should tell each other about a lesson! What a day! I'll take Monday being crap as pay back!!!

hmb, what a lovely post, your classes are luckier than they know and I wish all our teachers were like you.

We went to visit a local grammar school on Thursday (DS1 is due to take his 11+ in January) and I was so impressed by the students and the enthusiasm of the teachers that I quite fancied going back to school myself!

What do you teach hmb?

Sorry, wemt to bed before the last post. I teach science 11-14. Biology and physics 14-16, biology and human biology 16-18. Have done Human physiology in my time, and also did some teaching in university in biochemistry and neuroscience (teaching the latter to Y10 today....love it so much!)

Have a 'bad' day today with my 'worse class 1-2. Still, will keep the thought of Friday with me to keep happy!

I hated my physics teacher at secondary school so I did crap in my A level so went to college and did another year with a fantastic teacher and sat it again - got a B that time!!

Bet physics is a tough one to teach as so many kids find it incredibly hard.

I don't do a lot of physics, tbh. We try to keep teachers to their specialist subject and mine is biology. However we are so short of physics teachers we all get drfted in at GCSE. We tend to get placed with the lower attainment groups that are doing foundation level, so that cuts out some of the more demanding stuff.

I'm not briliant at physics (I do have an A level in it, but didn't do it at university, did biochemistry) which in an odd way makes it a bit easier to teach kids who also find it hard. You tend to strip a topic down to the bare essentials and teach it a baby step at a time.
