Help! Urgent advice needed

Need some advice please for a meeting tomorrow! just been informed of it now.

background: ds3 has Sn, probably asd but no dx, has been given a statement for 16 hours 1-1. He was due to start reception last week, we went to a meeting with hthe Head last term, explained our concerns (eg laste July baby plus the SN) and asked for a PT after Chrsitmas start, FT at Easter. head said OK by her, she'd check with governors- never heard anything of it.

Got a message today.... apprently they were surprised ds3 didn't start term 9even though he'd not been to any induction classes and we hadn't been sent letters regarding his schedules for uinduction etc), they're inclined to give his palce away now as over subscribed.

If I agree tos tart him next week, I've landed myself a massive bill with a CM who takes him as Uni pays for that but won't if he doesn'yt attend. I also don't hink he's ready yet- besides we have no uniform in place etc and I don't get my grant yet (End of month)

What do I do???????????

there is another school, which I much prefer, but with 1 at this school and 1 at the attached Juniors I'll be landing myself in for a nightmare journey.

Can't beleive they deny any knowledge after all the meetings / discussions etc

If he is able to start this academic year I don't think they can give the place away once you have accepted it. Not sure who you should speak to apart from the head again . Chances are it is a miscommunication ie someone has been asked to check all the no-shows.

It was the head and senco summoned us, and the same people that we spoke to in the meeting

she has a known dislike of SN kids, but she leaves at Christmas anyway
Says they don't have to keep place at all, i thought they did

Is there a parent partnership advisor from the LEA that you could ring tomorrow morning?

Peachy · 11/09/2007 17:17

They wanted us in 9.30, but we cant as I forgot anyway that I have a meeting of all DS3's medics / practitioners etc, at 9.30, followed by MW at 11- theres only so much , Dh si going to cancel until friday as IPSEA are trying to get us legal advice by then.

the annoying thing is, if it weren't for the toehr boys (one happy at this school, one at the atatched Juniors) i'd be happy for him to go to the under suscribed school- but i can't be in 3 places at 9am every morning, and moving ds1 would be too ahrd on him as he is settling well.

They know what they can do with the idea I ws going to sit on the PTA committee this year though! Or if they don't, they soon will.

I thought that if you wanted to defer his start until January, they had to hold the place for you. I suggest you talk to your local admissions team tomorrow, the number will be on your County Council web-site. Actually it might be worth having a look on there anyway, as some have a lot of info about school admissions etc.

Have the school got someone in place for the 16 hours 1-1 already? Given his special needs I'm really suprised they have not arranged a special induction program for you and given you a chance to meet the person who will be working with him on a 1-1 basis.

If they did have someone in place already, would you be happy about him just doing his 1-1 time and see how he gets on for a few weeks ?

I really feel for you, it's horrible when schools seem to do all they can to put off SN children, especially when you already have children at the school.

Hi, yhanks for that

seems to be the LEA listed the wrong school on the statement so they're grabbing at a straw!

There's non1-1 yet, what happened with ds1 was that they simply sat the existing NNEB on his table, I suspect the same will happen- except ds3 is in nappies, and they won't change them- it could be that simple
