My son has been set work for Easter revision totalling 60 hours.

We've just had a flaming row as I asked him when he was doing it..making a start. Just give me a time of when and I'll ask no more type thing. Said I'd sit down and go through it with him - I'm a qualified teacher in one of his A Level subjects and so know I could really help.

I may have said he's wasting our money (private school) so he has cried, said I make him feel like shit, am a horrible person, told me to fuck off etc.

He usually boards so this is hard for both of us - I'm not usually having to police his work. It just stresses me out knowing he's got work to do but I can't see him doing it. He's not a high flying student. GCSE's were average. He's dyslexic and has to work hard. I want to help but apparently that's just me on his back Hmm

It sounds your sons reaction is quite normal even if as you say very frustrating. I got very frustrated the first couple of days then we sat down and discussed a plan for everything not just school work. A rota for cooking, cleaning plus school work, learning new skills and exercise helped so an expectation is created of purposeful activity but not just school work and give them some choice and control
