Got a very sporty boy currently in Y8 in private school and needing to move him to state sector for Y9 entry in September. Am thinking of West London Free or Chiswick School...any views on these schools re sport and education - or indeed any other west london co-ed schools you can recommend?

State schools don’t have extra spaces for a Y9 intake. Your best bet would be to contact the schools to find out if they have a space or failing that your local LA and they will assign you a school. We’re not in London but a lot of the good schools are full and operate waiting lists.

Do those schools have vacancies? If they are the top most popular school it is likely there will be places available - they don't keep any free for people moving out of private schools.

Chiswick School didn't have a great reputation until recently when a new head took over.No first hand experience but the local vibe is it has improved.
West London Free is sought after, so as said, you need to call round. I imagine a few parents in this area will be looking to move from private to state come September, given the very unfortunate current climate.

PS...you will probably get more feedback by posting in the "Secondary Education" section.

Agree with fabric re Chiswick. I knew staff there under the old regime and most left. Friends with children there tell me they are very happy with it.

Other friends rave about West London Free but the difficulty there is getting in.

I did some supply work at Chiswick and have a friend who used to work there - do not recommend it.

Stellamboscha - when did you do your supply work, as a matter of interest? And when did your friend used to work there? Recently, or before the new head? New head is terrific, and school has just had an Ofsted inspection grading it Good with Outstanding personal development for pupils so unless your experience is in the last year since the new head took over, I would suggest you and your friend are out of date.

I am a parent with a dc at the school.
