sometimes year 7s start at 9am then others start later so the new ones aren't scared straight away!

One school in our town has only year 7s first day, then everyone second day.

Our school does it differently - in July they have a 'turnaround week'. First day, only new sixthformers in. Second day, only prefects and new Yr 7s (this is before primary schools break up). New Yr 7s stay for five full days, everyone else moves up a year. Everyone has proper new timetable that week.

So, all settling in is done in July, which means in September the whole school turns up on the first day of term. Brilliant system.
