The DSs are starting a new school tomorrow (yrs 1 and 3) and I can't quite work out all the emotions that seem to be whizzing around my head! I have just checked and laid out all their stuff for tomorrow, and I'm feeling

  • anxious about the first day for them
  • excited about the new school (it's fab!)
  • nervous about meeting new mums
  • proud - they look so cute in their uniforms
  • worried that it will all work out OK
  • sad that they are growing up
  • exhausted - it's the culmination of what seems like WEEKS of uniform shopping and labelling (I swear I have labelled over 80 items!)

I didn't feel like this when they started their last school - what on earth is going on???

Is it just me? How does everyone else feel?

TellusMater · 03/09/2007 22:58

Woo-hoo!

And ds feels the same

ntsmum · 03/09/2007 23:00

feel sad & sorry for myself but can't wait to get my (markedly fatter than 6 weeks ago) arse back to the gym!!

Legacy · 03/09/2007 23:00

Oh yes - don't get me wrong - I'm also thinking "thank god for that, they're driving me mad" too but there is definitely something about 'Back to School' this year which is making me all emotional....

Last week I was counting the days longing for a bit of peace and quiet (dd going back to Yr 1 and ds to Pre-School), but tonight I am feeling strangely melancholic.

Sure it will pass though!

LaCod · 03/09/2007 23:02

I'm fuming at having lost his sodding book bag if that's any better?

stealthsquiggle · 03/09/2007 23:10

I think I need a [phew] emoticon.

Not that I don't love having DS around, but the pressure of juggling him and DD and work and a fragile jigsaw of childcare arrangements is just about to push me over the edge.

Unfortunately I still have another week to go.

Pinkchampagne · 03/09/2007 23:10

I felt very emotional leaving DS1 in the junior playground for the first time today, as he was really daunted & scared.

DS2 is starting reception on Thursday & I am feeling really sad about that too.

onlyjoking9329 · 03/09/2007 23:14

Ds is starting at his sisters SN school tomorrow so i am feeling a bit nervous about that thou i don't know why as he will be fine.
i am so pleased that they are going back to school.

chipkid · 03/09/2007 23:24

Ds is about to start in year 2. I know that the first two weeks with a new teacher means high stress for him and thus difficult behaviour. I am glad he is going back (he was off for 9 weeks), but he is so relaxed and happy I feel sad that he has to face this anxious time again.

DD starts nursry in the next week and I feel it is the end of an era for me. She has been at home (now almost three)-so very mixed emotions

LittleBella · 03/09/2007 23:25

Am a bit pissed off really

Got a new job this summer and haven 't been able to spend any time with them

hellish · 03/09/2007 23:28

Nervous, they don't tell you who your teacher/ classmates will be so we'll be reading the lists on the classroom doors tomomorrow morning.

It will be rather stressful, dd1 seems fine though,
dd2 begins French Immersion to that should be interesting

Main issue will be getting up in time, bell goes at 8.15, and dcs haven't been up before 9 for the last 9 weeks.

ZoMbIeTaLcY · 03/09/2007 23:57

afraid i'm with hectorshouse on this one....although will probably be weepy tommorow...both going up to 'big' school
