Hi

Does anyone have any knowledge of Farringtons school? Would it suit an arty, sensitive girl with average academic abilities?

I would say yes. They are a school with a strong pastoral ethos and offer a wide range of subjects, having a range of abilities across the year group. They support those who can achieve well and also those who need additional support too.

Hi @HuntIdeas, did you decide on Farrington's by any chance? We're thinking about it for our daughter currently in Year 6...

My son is there in year 7, he is thriving, he lacked confidence before and now he is a different child. The head is wonderful, he is so focused on improvement through kindness and care of individual needs. Its heart-warming to see how the children are treated, and they are all polite and friendly when I go to the school. Very different to the independent school I moved him from. His academic results have improved hugely, its all linked, happy children do well at school.

What is the entrance exam like for year 7 entry into the senior school? How difficult is it to secure a place?

chalkyc2 · 14/07/2022 07:46

I'd say it's the least competitive of all the local independents and below Bexley grammar levels?

That's good to know. We're trying to work out if we need to move our daughters during their junior school years or whether it's fine to have them sit the entrance exams for year 7. Our daughters are moderately academic.

I think there's pretty much an automatic pass from the junior school through to seniors - but there's a new head since my children were there.

Sadly, I can’t recommend this school. Our experience there was not what we expected.
The test is a lot easier then the 11+ and the children in the prep have a place secured without a test for entrance to Year 7. Unless they want to apply for a scholarship.
The quality of the teaching was also a let down so we had no choice then to have our child tutored privately.
Parents are getting increasingly unhappy with the school and complaints are ignored. Happy to chat privately if you want detailed info but having worked in private school for many years it is very easy for me to make a comparison.
