I wonder what Ashford School is as a boarding school for a friend's son. The do not live in England and are considering sending him there. His English is fluent. How nurturing is the Senior School and how happy an environment is the boarding house, etc.? Any honest views on the school would be welcome.

It has a good reputation but lots of the children who go there are non-boarders from the local area. Bare in mind it's in Kent which is one of the few areas of the UK which still operates a grammar system. Quite a few of the local kids who go here would be kids who were hoping to go into a grammar but failed the 11+. With this in mind they do get very good results but probably don't have as many very bright children as you might find in boarding schools elsewhere in the UK. The kids also have good opportunities for sport music and drama. However there aren't many boarders, especially in the younger years so it might be quite lonely for a child from abroad.

It has a good reputation as a nice, nurturing environment but I would check the numbers of boarders I thought it was mainly a day school with a few international students who board.
