Anyone starting school next week?

Our big day is Tuesday. Anyone else starting school next week?

I feel quite jittery, but ds seems fine about it. We moved house (250 miles) this month, and the boys have taken everything in their stride. My eldest is going into Yr 1, with a class of children who've been together at school for a year (different systems). But he doesn't seem phased at all by the prospect.

I've left all my friends behind, and won't have a shoulder to cry on when I'm feeling emotional on Tuesday.

My dd1 starts reception on Thurs. She seems fine so far. But I feel like it's the end of "life as we know it"! Dd2 and I are really going to miss her. I'll definitely be blubbing in the car park!

I thought I'd feel quite emotional by now as ds (only child) is starting this Thursday. Probably will cry in car park, but first all new parents have to go to Headmasters Study, so will have to keep it together till then.
However, feel quite exhausted after having been a "Redcoat" for the last 2 months, and frankly feel inclined to go home via newsagents, purchase pile of magazines, and retire to the sofa for the rest of the day!!

My DS starts on Tuesday too, it was his last day at Nursery on Friday, which was a bit tearful. He is looking forward to big school very much, but does keep getting a little worried about not having any friends, no-one liking him etc. Although, 3 others from his Nursery are going to the same school, so he knows he will have friends.

Ds starts on Tues 10th, and is really looking forward to going to 'big'school and making some new friends. I feel almost as bad as I did when he started nursery at 9 mths. I had to try and explain to dh last night why I needed to be the one who took ds to school on his first day - don't really know clearly myself, I just have to be there. Maybe I have to see for myself that my baby is going to be alright.

Mine starts this Wednesday and I can't quite believe he's old enough: 5 years have gone by so quickly. It seems like only yesterday that I was praying for it to be time for him to go to school He's looking forward to it though and I'm hoping I'll manage not to cry until I'm out of sight...

Do you think 9.30 a.m. is too early to go home and have a stiff G&T?

I think we should come here and all have one together. Then we can start a new thread called "help, my sons' school think I'm a dipso, how do I tell them it was just the once?"

My ds is starting on Wednesday and funnily enough I feel OK about it its my dp that I think is going to cry. Ds is really not happy about leaving nursery as he did not get into the school his buddies are going to. If ds cries however I think I may well just give in and blub too!!!

What gems of wisdom have you/ are you giving to you dds/dss to take with them? I've only managed "Listen to the teachers and try your best" so far?

My dd went to school for the first time today and I feel so emotional about it - even though in reality she has been at nursery part time since she was 20 months! She just seems so grown up now and even independant in a way, yet it seems such a short time ago that she was a tiny baby in my arms. She is of course so excited and happy which is exactly what I want - I guess it is just me, coming to terms with the unavoidable fact that she is growing up fast! Of course, just like I couldn't with his sister, I can't imagine 15m ds starting - thank goodness it is some way off still!!!

Indie, in some ways I can more easily imagine dd (2 y.o. going on 16) going to school than ds, who is about to start. How did my little baby boy suddenly get so old and grown up? (Always be my baby though, however big and ugly he gets ... and however embarrassing he finds it .)

EXCELLENT first day. ds seemed completely unphased by all the changes. (We've moved house 250 miles, and he's straight into yr 1, with an established class, though he's never been to school before).

His (awful) report from nursery hadn't arrived at the school, so the teacher had chance to judge him for himself, without reading someone else's views first.

He was very happy, and has had a very good day. We're very impressed with the school - it's big - 500+ kids, from 4-11, but the head teacher personally welcomed him, as a new boy, and spent several minutes talking directly to him and telling him about the school.

Dropped off my little man this morning he was fine I was a little shaky!! Didnt even look back such a brave child!!!

Me too. I didn't feel upset 'til I was nearly home and wished my Dad was here to talk to and to say good luck to ds. Ds was fine, not upset at all, kissed me and walked off without a backward glance. Glad we've got the first morning out of the way.

Ds starts next week - I'm sure I will shed a tear, or two - my baby isn't my baby anymore.

Well, we did it! Dd very excited, jumped practicaly all the way there! I think we're both relieved to get the first day over. She said this morning "even though I'm a schoolgirl now, I'm still me aren't I?" Bless...!

Batey, how sweet

Ds at the foot of our bed at 610 this morning dressed in his uniform and ready to go!
Off without a backward glance this morning, but Oh, so, so tired this afternoon; I have never seen him so motionless in front of the TV for so long. In bed by 6.20 tonight.

Batey, that is so sweet. Dp took ds today and suddenly understood why it was odd for me yesterday. He said ds looked so small and it seemed so strange to be leaving him alone in such a big place...

Ds' 3rd day today and he loves it - hope it stays that way!!!

DD was up at 6.30am, in our room, saying 'I am a school girl now and today I am going to learn to read' (her second day at school!). Bless, I hope she is always this excited!!!
