I’m starting my first ever teaching post tomorrow, I was supposed to start 2 weeks ago but couldn’t as I had a medical emergency.

Teaching Secondary and will be a Y10 Form tutor.

Does anyone have any tips they can share with me? I think it’s only just setting in that I’m no longer in uni/training and I’m actually working Grin

Start as you mean to go on.
Have a seating plan for each class, and change it if you need to.
Stick to the rules and put sanctions in place.
Ask for help from those around you.
Use existing lesson plans as a basis for your lessons, don't re-invent the wheel.
get to know your classes as best you can.

I always think for managing behaviour try to dole out lots of praise but also be very firm with misbehaviour from the start. I always follow up telling off a child with heaping praise on another who is doing what they are supposed to!
