BTEC question...advice needed

If my daughter got a Level 1 merit in her exam but higher for coursework (all level 2s) can she get a level 2 awarded overall? Or not.

It is very tricky and we still haven't quite worked it out. It seems that there are pass tasks, merit tasks and distinction tasks. Essentially, I think if you get three passes in a year then you get a pass irrespective of what else you got.
