DS will be 15 at the end of June 2021. He finishes year 10 in July 2021. Will that be his last month at school ? Thought they stayed at school until age 16? confused , anyone ?

Kids who turn 16 between September and August in year 11 will leave school in the May ready for exams.

In U.K. I think it’s... required to be in education/school until turned 16, have to stay until June of year you turn 16. So it may be June 2022 for yr boy

He has to stay until 18 (or equivalent to y13). So for example, my son did his GCSEs this year (y11). He could either stay in school and do A levels, or go to an apprenticeship college for two years (which is what he’s doing), or some other vocational/specialist program. If he stayed at school as he’s a summer baby he’d technically still be 17 at end of Y13, but the you get the idea.
Even before the new rules your child would have had to do GCSEs and stay in school until 16 (y11).

Year 10 isn't the final year. He will still have Year 11 - the year the GCSE exams are taken.
Then if in England two more years of whatever post - gcse option he goes for.

Regardless of age you have to finish Yr11. Then, unless he has an apprenticeship he will have to attend college or sixth form until age 18. 18 is now the leaving age.

Year 11 is GCSE year - you are off role at sometime at the end of June (dates vary with schools). You are supposed to be in education or training until 18 - but this is not enforced.

But all should be at school or college (part time if an apprentice) until 18.
