End of year exams

Hi,
Can anybody tell me what the results for year 9 end of year exams are for?
Just wondering of the importance, my son has already been given his choice of GCSE subjects and is in the top set so I don't think they used for streaming.

It depends on the school - presumably the streams could still be changed (although it probably wouldn't happen just on the basis of end of year exams). They're also just used for information for the teachers of how much the student's have retained and for students to practise another set of exams and improve their revision technique.

Well I think it’s so they can see whether the year of teaching translates into actual learning!

At DS's school they have said they are to get the kids used to 1. Revising and 2. Exams. They are done in proper exam conditions.

Thanks all.
I have emailed the school but no response yet.
Ah revision practise, I get that but seems like they're not a massive deal so I'm not going to put too much pressure on him, plenty of time for that in the next 2 years!

Yes certainly no need for any pressure or stress.
But imagine if they don't have these exams and the first ones they do are GCSE mocks?

DDs school stress the importance in yrs7-9 is for them to get used to the whole experience. To try out different methods of revision. To see any issues for individuals in exam conditions. As much as i could do without them in our family's life i can see the point.

Surely they're also important for the teachers to check that content is being held for longer than an end of topic test.

For some subjects, they're also used to stream, but that is rare and it won't only be based on the end of year exam.
