When do I receive a school fine?

Hello Mums

My son's school have spoken to me about unauthorized absences they never said they were going to fine me they just offered me help and support.

What I am worried about though is as they have to supply the council with information what if they tell the council and the council decide to fine me? Will they fine me at the end of the school year or do they send the fines straight away or end of term?

Should I call council and ask them if I will be fined or just warned I have bad anxiety 😕

Just bumping this thread for you, OP, in case anyone's around to offer some advice.

If you are going to be fined that should happen straight away.

Your council will have a code of practice that specifies when a fine can be issued. There is usually a minimum level of absences required before they will issue a fine. If the school are offering help and support it is unlikely you will be fined.

If you feel you can, do explain your anxieties to the school and ask for them to explain what they see the next steps being. If your anxiety is worsened by the fear of not knowing, let them know this and they can then do more to help. I think they sound like they're trying to be nice, probably thought they were doing their best by offering help and support, but didn't realise how you may interpret this intervention.

Op what makes you think they're going to tell the council? Have they said that?

If they issued a fine they would do it straight away (although there is often a delay on the LA actually issuing it, depending how busy they are), but it sounds unlikely if they're offering support.
