Wells Cathedral 6th form Boarding

Desperately trying to reach a decision. My daughter has been offered a place at Wells Cathedral in the 6th form boarding. I have heard varied comments about Wells Cathedral. Keen to hear from parents whose children have moved to boarding in 6th form and also specifically any parents with knowledge of Wells senior school and also of boarding at Wells in 6th form. What is the balance of academics to music?

I live in the area & can tell you it is a nice area and amaware that it is a music school. My friend's daughter had a scholarship there - based on musical ability. I don't know enough about the specifics to answer your questions.
Why not visit for a weekend & also have a conversation with pupils & teachers about things?

My DD boarded at 6th form although not at Wells. It was the best experience for her. Happy to answer any questions you may have about boarding at this stage.

My DD is boarding for sixth form, not at Wells, but is in a school which prioritises both A levels and performing arts so have some experience of the juggling involved!

Hi, many thanks everyone for your responses. Really sorry I did not reply sooner. Juggling work, home and GCSEs. We have finally decided and accepted the place at Wells! Big step! My daughter is so excited and I am sure she will manage to balance the music and other academics. Any advice on preparing for boarding school welcome. Thanks once again.

Congratulations!
I’m sure the school will have a lists for kit, clothes, equipment etc. to help you.

DD took cushions, throws, fairy lights, own lamp, photos and posters to decorate her area of the dorm. All of the girls did and the room looked really welcoming when they had finished.
And I think she would say the biggest change was being around people all day and night, all the time. On the plus side it meant she didn’t miss home too much as she was involved in so much from the outset.
And don’t underestimate how many times each term you make the trip to school! 😁

Dd has boarded for 6th form (not Wells) and loves it but as there's no younger kids it's a bit different I expect, it's like a half way house between boarding and university halls I suppose, be aware full boarding may be more restrictive
