Move from St Anne's Catholic School .

Hello !
My daughter is in year 8 in St Anne's Catholic School and for the last year she s been starting to hate the school. She says she doesn't like the teachers, the children or the atmosphere. She feels like she is bot learning anything . She is summer born so I am sure she is struggling a bit more than the other kids.
I know it's the age as well where children don't like many things but my instinct tells me that we should change the school . Has anyone been in this situation as us ? Can anyone recommend me a good secondary school where the teachers are good and supportive and the bullying is not awful ?
I'm really really stressing about this now on top of everything else and really want her to be happy :(
We live in Freemantle Area SO15 so the closest ones to us are Regents Park ,Upper Shirley Highschool and Kind Edwards. Would really really appreciate any opinion about this school or any sort of advice ..
Thank you so much !

A desperate mum .

I'd go Eddies if I could afford it!

Oh my God...I didn't even realise kind Edwards is private school . I've just had a look now . I couldn't afford to pay that in a million years :(

There are a lot of St Anne's Catholic Schools out there, as I've now realised! You may get more replies if you get MN to add Southampton to the title so it doesn't get confused with Enfield etc.

I'm not sure I can help you with more advice but hope you found a solution.
We visited St Anne's but were definitely put off when the child asked to show us round told us she was on the waiting list for other schools as desperately wanted to leave 😟
If looking for a Catholic school I know many girls at St Georges who absolutely love it there and one who gets the bus from Freemantle area to get there.
Most schools seem keen to allow visits so may be visiting those on your list and seeing which you get the best feel for might be the next step. Good luck.

Thank you . I haven't found a solution yet but thank you for telling me about St George's College . I sent them an email asking if they have any spaces .
Regents Park it's full with a waiting list of 11 children , some since November on it . I had a look at Hounsdown in Totton too and sent them an email.too .
This is such a nightmare :(

St George’s is a lovely school. The pastoral care is excellent.

TeenTimesTwo · 17/05/2019 16:27

Probably both full as very popular, but have you considered Romsey or Mountbatten schools in Romsey? They do run buses into S'oton (though again might be full).

TalkinPaece · 17/05/2019 17:34

Upper Shirley is your best bet by a long way
otherwise see if you can get into Mountbatten or Romsey
but Upper Shirley gets better results than St Georges

remember that Waiting lists work on criteria not time

PS KES is very overrated so do not feel guilty about saying in the state system.

and remember to avoid Oasis at all costs Smile

I have nothing to gain from this as I don’t have a child at either of these schools (USH or St George’s) but do have friends at both and both are spoken highly of by those that go there.
Just to clarify that ST George’s results have been very much on the up over the last few years and last year were amongst the best in the city (progress or attainment 8, English & maths passes etc) and above Mountbatten or Romsey. Just to offer an alternative voice to the suggestion that USH results were better, even though I’m not overly fond of those measurements, they are what they are and they do change over time.

I will also say I have friends who are also very happy with many other of the Southampton state secondaries; glowing reports from some who really like St Anne’s, Cantell and Bitterne Park. (Although bad experiences do happen still too).
Hopefully it just means more of the schools are on the up and we will finally get to have some great schools here instead of seeing the exodus of children to those in Hampshire.

Caspar
St Georges is still on its upwards bump from the hole it was in before it went co-ed

If the OP is in Freemantle, they have zilch chance of getting across the Itchen to school in Bitterne
and with the big new developments in Nursling coming on stream, MB and Romsey are filling up more locally

but on the up side, he Polish kids are now hitting year 10 and the improvement in standards they bring with them is affecting every Southampton school for the better

(my kids are both at Uni now BTW)
