Looking for School up to 8

Morning all

We are in the process of selling a house in London and moving out a bit. We're looking around Sunningdale/ Ascot but not wedded to those places. Boys are likely to go to Papplewick in Yr 2 and 3 as day boys so need to be relatively close to Ascot.

I can't find many options for pre preps in the area. Anyone know of any?

Otherwise, are there any really good infant schools in the area and would they be ok transitioning to a relatively fast paced prep at 8 from a state infant school? We'd be looking at trying to get in Year places too so may be scuppered for a very over subscribed stare.

Any advice welcome. Thanks all.

Did you ask Papplewick where their boys come from? Also why not state schools and save some money? There's no preparation they need to get into Papplewick. Isn't Papplewick non-selective? My DC were in state schools until 7+. Even the one who needed to do the 7+ test passed and got into his choice of school.

Boarding preps outside London are struggling to fill their places - particularly in Years 4-6. If the parents can pay and the children are not impossibly badly behaved they will be welcomed with open arms. Don’t believe the hype about these schools being over subscribed!

A state infant school followed by a state junior will teach your children all they need to know. You might like to add in a bit of extra curricular sport so they can tell the difference between a rugby ball and a soccer ball, and a few music lessons if you want to be sure they will hit the ground running.

Thanks all. They will go private at age 7/8 for sure. I just need to find a good option for Reception to Yr 2. There seem to be a few good state infant schools around the area so that's an option I want to explore before settling on a house. But I can't find any private pre-preps. Where we lived in London there was loads of choice both state and private.

When I said oversubscribed I was referring to the very good state schools. They definitely won't be boarding until much later, if then.

Hi OP, I know the area pretty well - hope you find somewhere good to move to.

Coworth Flexlands takes boys up to 7 so they should be used to prepping them for 7+. If you want a good infant school, have you looked at Valley End which is on the Chobham/Windlesham border. It's a lovely school and has a great reputation locally. Otherwise, you could start them at Hall Grove and move them at 7 but they probably aren't prepared for 7+ as that's not a natural leaving point.
