Help needed for lesson ideas with difficult year 6.

I'm in with a difficult year 6 class tomorrow. They know me, but it's not my class. Has anyone got any foolproof ideas for interesting activities? They will not want to do ANY work! I am dreading it.

I'm not a teacher, but I've been helping out as a mum with Yr 6 this week and last - they are stir crazy! The best thing we have done so far is french knitting, with them competing to make the longest piece. The "spools" we use are pieces of kitchen roll inner cut into 3, with 4 lolly (craft) sticks stuck round to wind the wool round - does this make any sense? It might be too hard to get everything sorted at short notice, tho. Good luck!

ooh - haven't done that before. Thanks! Will definitely keep the girls happy. Might have to find something else for the boys - they think they are the coolest of cool at the moment!

Tough one

'Who Am I' based on one of the topics you have studied this year. Pinwho they are on their back, they wander round and ask questions of each other to work out who they are. Only yes/no questions are allowed.

So for mini beasts they could be a worm, or a lady bird etc. that sort of thing. You could get them to construct a key to identify the mini beasts at the end. have a google search for the best pictures of each?

A webquest? Ask them questions and they need to get the answers from the internet? Prise for the first team to finish?

Thanks martianbishop - I could link it with branching databases and put them on the computers.
