Dull but need to know - do iron-on name labels work?

Or do they drop off after a few washes? DS off to school in September and would rather iron on all the labels instead of sewing.

I had to label all my MILs clothes the other week when she moved into a nursing home - I'd still be there now if I'd had to sew labels on!
