Eleven plus mock exams...help!

Hi everyone!

I didn't get a response so I have posted this again.

I really want my son to have practise on mock 11+ exams (sitting KE exam this Sept) as it will help us to see how he is doing each month and give him good practice of sitting the exam.

My daughter sat mock exams previously and I have been disappointed about the quality of the questions and feedback. They weren't great. My daughter said the level of difficulty was not pitched realistically compared to the real exam. So the idea and concept of mock exams is great but if it is just going to knock your child's confidence and not give good insight, is it doing more harm than good? The few companies I used in the past were not great.

Please can you recommend anyone, Urgently!! Hoping to book with a decent one this year.

Why not ask on the 11plus forum lots of info on there including a tutor section.

We used Chukra and Susan Daughtrey last year and I was fairly pleased with both, although Susan Daughtrey seemed much harder. Plus we used Bond Online monthly subscription and did paired reading.

Well we don't know what you have tried in the past - was it one of Sutton Grammar/Wallington/Wilsons or something more local to you? With any of the big school providers you arent going to get very specific feedback but they will tell you topics you need to focus on, if the papers werent finished and the position in the cohort.

For any more then you need to be with a private provider tbh.

We just bought several sets of mixed exam papers (CEM style) from different publishers to get a good range - Letts, CGP etc. Ds did these over the summer in timed conditions and we worked on any weaknesses that came up with him.

He said that the real thing (Birmingham) was very similar. Just make sure you get mixed papers rather than a set with one maths paper, one VR etc.

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend an excellent 11+ Maths/ English tutor in the Kingston/ Wimbledon area.

I don’t mind if I have to get 2 separate tutors but I desperately need someone who actually going to teach Comprehension / Skills and not simply out hand out papers to do at home.

Thanks, Suzanne

I found some great information on www.schoolentrancetests.com. They have a great collection of past exam papers and have recently started a quiz for 11+ Maths practice based on 11+ questions.

My daughter enjoys it very much as she can do it on her own and get the answers immediately after.
They also do very informative blogs on a regular basis, covering topics of school entrance.

In the end I went for KSOL and Einstein11Plus. Although similar in price, Einstein11Plus gave free detailed feedback on how my son did during the test such as taking too long in reading the comprehension section and not checking over his answers. The results had a very detailed breakdown about 20 pages long with a breakdown of each question. I've booked another one with Einstein as they seemed to pitch the results as to what I was expecting (but was hoping for a bit better). Has anyone else used these 2 companies and what did you think?

I would recommend Einstein as KSOL keep trying to charge you extra and 'sell' their materials and intensive courses.
