Ewell Castle Sixth Form?

Hello all - long time lurker, first time poster.

Wonder if there are any views on the Sixth Form at Ewell Castle? We attended the open morning last week and was very impressed with the children and teachers, however, am keen to peek 'behind the curtain' before making a choice. Also do know the school has a new Principal and wonder what that may mean for the school going forward?

Any thoughts or impressions would be gratefully received.

:)

Hi, I have a son in Year 13 and cannot speak highly enough about the 6th Form. Ewell Castle has always had an excellent reputation with pastoral care and this is even better when they reach Year 12 and 13. The class sizes are very small and extremely focused, the Heads of Sixth Form are always available for meetings with parents and always work hard to find sensible and workable solutions to maximise their grades but the stand out for me is the preparation for UCAS. This part is superb and they take all the stress out of the application process. My son has been accepted for places in Russell Group universities and at the beginning of Year 12, I would never have given him a chance. In addition to that, they work hard on the soft skills which are so important in the workplace. They all seem to be able to speak to a large audience confidently and fluently - amazing! The 6th Form seem very close to the staff and are given really significant roles of responsibility and I think that helps. My son has matured beyond his years and I have Ewell Castle to thank for that. This is only a snapshot, to be honest. I could go on and on as it is a very busy place. Not really sure about the new Principal yet as he hasn't been there long but he seems very sensible and grounded and I have heard he was extremely well liked and respected in his last school.

I definitely agree with you, Wimbledonreader, I have a slightly different experience. My son was in a high performing state school. I knew there were problems with one of his subjects but felt I couldn't address the school with my concerns. I also think he didn't work hard enough. We sent him to Ewell Castle to re-do Year 13 and couldn't believe the difference! Nothing was too much trouble, the door was always open, the teaching was superb and, yes, you are right, the UCAS application was efficient and professional. He achieved fantastic grades and is now studying Law at a top Russell Group university. Thank you, Ewell Castle Sixth Form! One thing I loved were the revision sessions run by the Heads of 6th Form every night after school and three hours on a Saturday. I began to wonder whether those two actually lived there! So committed and so caring.
