KCS 13+ entry interview invitation

I was wondering if interview invitations email/phone call for 13+ entry in 2021 have been sent... really nervous... anyone else waiting or have people received theirs ...

Sorry to hear that accrobat. There were so many boys for so few places at 13. Such a brutal process. Hope you get good news elsewhere.

DS has, to our surprise, been called for interview. From the admissions info and what they've done previously I'd expected 2 interviews focusing on specific subjects but DS e-mail says just one 20 minute interview? Anyone know if they've changed the format? Am a bit worried!

Sorry to hear that too accrobat - it really is a brutal process.

Notmynom - I was also surprised to see it was one interview for 20 mins and not two (as in previous years). 20 minutes is a long time!!! I am also wondering how many they interview and how many places there actually are? I'm just trying to get my head around what the odds are so I can keep my optimism in check!

Sorry you’ve had bad news accrobat - I think it’s the large numbers applying everywhere that turns it into a really painful process 🙁

I believe there are about 30 places.. last year they had circa 330 sitting and guessed that they interviewed about 100-120 (was trying to work out numbers whilst waiting!) We were told it was 10 to 1 for a place - how much that changes year on year I don’t know.

I would say that they made the process as nice as possible for the boys - my DS went into the interview looking like he was going to be ill - came out 20 minutes later - smiling and totally relaxed.. summed it up with “it was a really nice chat”

Most of the kids seemed quite relaxed - the parents not so much! 😉

Wow - those odds look pretty scary....although I would guess (hope!) they offer more places than 30 with the knowledge that many will be turned down. All the brightest boys will also be sitting St Pauls and Westminster and for many of them KCS won't be the first choice....

Yes would imagine they do offer to more - must be very hard to guess what people are going to do - would be interesting to know how they work it all out!

Do you think it makes a difference which day you go for interview - they don't seem to have done it alphabetically or by school....or am I just reading too much into this? (feeling a bit stressed!)

Feeling the same here. I imagine the time slots are random but who knows?

At least the wait is short between learning you've got an interview and it happening!

DS had his interview this afternoon and said it was very relaxed and he seemed quite happy afterwards. Now back to the waiting game!

The list of boys they were seeing looked worryingly long though given there are only 35 places.

DS had his too - probably saw you in the waiting room!! He said it was very relaxed and seemed happy when he came out. But I was also worried by the number of boys that were there - surely an interview is very subjective and its all going to come down to whether or not the interviewer likes one boy more than the the one before and the one after?

Hi my son has his tomorrow. Were the boys who already had their interviews today asked both maths and English (comprehension) questions, or it was more of a chat? Thx

Hi, my DS didn't reveal very much but I think he had to read a passage and answer questions and then had a choice of two photos to talk about. Wouldn't divulge any more detail I'm afraid. No maths.

We were at KCS this afternoon and had similar experience. Loads of different interviewers so it all seems very subjective and hard to know how important the interview really is as a decider..

anyway, now the wait.. so tired I wish we could just sleep through it!
