Private Schools in Northamptonshire

Hi, Posting this again, as no response received with the previous post :(
SIL moved to northampton and looking for private school to send their little girl. She travels twice a week to maidenhead and rest of the week work from home. Winchester house school is on her way to work, and Northampton girls high school is near to her home. She is confused between these schools, and any other good private schools she can consider. Looking forward to hear from other parents.

I don’t know WHS - looks like a fine prep especially if she is thinking of one of the big 13+ boarding schools for her DD, Rugby Marlborough etc.
I don’t know why you’d choose it if you were planning on schooling locally until 18. NHSG has always had a strong reputation and is part of the excellent GDST. I would choose that if they prefer day schools and can get a place (presumably they have 4+ assessment). Lovely facilities. Wellingborough is another fine school in the county 3-18 but not quite so close.
I’m sure there may be people with better local knowledge (there was a recent thread on one of the Education boards where similar schools were recommended- might be worth searching for it).

Winchester House is a prep school and the children stay until they are 13. Many then go on to boarding schools or maybe locally to Stowe. Northampton is a senior school that goes from age 11 to 18. So very different.

She could look at Stowe near Buckingham from age 13. Northamptonshire isn't blessed with great independent schools in every town!

Oundle?

Bubbles, Northampton High School is a GDST that goes from 3 to 18. I suspect that's the school OP means? Not the state school?

Melonpeppa · 25/01/2019 10:27

@Colorbomb, looks she meant the independent school - Northampton High School. Is NHSG and NHS are under the same management. Any reviews or recommendations on NHS please, TIA.

Northampton high school is outstanding, best in the county and really good all round. I went there and my two nieces are there currently and love it. Go there 100%.

Northampton school for girls is a state secondary- good music, it's average but not at all NHS standard.

Don't look at Stowe. Bad experience with my two brothers there (admittedly a few years ago now)

Friends’ daughter is in Northampton High school and very happy, currently yr4

Wellingborough School? Co-ed and by all accounts lovely.

Or she could move closer to bedford for excellent schools and much more choice.

Both my children have had great experiences at Pitsford School, would definitely recommend looking there.
