I'm studying to be a PE teacher and would really like to know your thoughts on how PE could be improved :)

@PanamaPattie ahhh...finally someone to support me!

I started being active again at the age of 32 and now - despite the excess baby weight - I run half marathons. I am an undiagnosed dyspraxic and can't catch a ball even by chance, but without that humiliation I'd have been healthier in my younger years and my life would have benefited in general from some sort of self esteem.

PE is not going to tackle childhood obesity. Teaching the importance of being fit at each one best and not putting people off exercise for decades is.

I thought of another thing. Teach proper technique. The way we were taught to hold a tennis raquet was correct for forhand, but the follow through wasnt. They never taught us to change the grip for backhand and then would get really sarcastic when the balls went up in the air and over the back fence. I took some lessons when I got to uni and within a very short space of time I was playing really well.

By actually having lessons, in our case! I've started marking it on the calendar when they actually have it, as they cancel it at the drop of a hat. He's Y3, and they've only had one lesson a week all term (should be two). It makes it seem like being active is an optional extra, instead of emphasising that taking exercise is necessary for our health.
