Looking for a small, nurturing prep school in greater london

I am looking for a small scale un pressurised prep school for two of my children. My eldest son has some mild SEN but has found mainstream school very difficult. He is bright and articulate and well behaved but has become a bit invisible at his large local authority primary school and his self esteem has dipped.

We would like to send him and his sister to the Hampstead ACademy school which seems very nice but I’m a bit worried about the journey time and we can’t afford to relocate to Hampstead village.

We could relocate somewhere else within commuting distance of central London though and so I would love to hear of any other small, independent prep schools that are nurturing and cater to the individual.

Does anyone know of any? They would have to have a low key admissions procedure as my son would not do well sitting stressful exams. Any advice please?

If you are interested in the Kingston area try Ewell Castle, Hampton Court House or for a small nurturing Prep near Thames Ditton try Weston Green School. There is lots of choice in this part of Greater London.

For inner SW London, I suggest you look at Parkgate House (near Clapham Common), the Dolphin on Northcote Rd, and The Roche.

If you like the look of academy in Hampstead have a look at Norfolk house, our friends have just sent their DS who has sen there and are very happy. He moved from a mainstream local school too.
Rosemary Works is also small and nurturing. Gower School is very good also.

There’s lots to choose from. Call around the ones that are convenient to you and take your kids with you on the tour. That helped us when deciding for our SEN DD. Seeing her in the school helped make a decision.
