Catholic school and building fund

My chns school (catholic) asks each family to donate ten pounds per child to a building fund and hounds parents who do not pay up by giving out letters to chn in class - naming and shaming. Just wondering if other catholic schools also ask parents to donate to this fund.

Yes, it's standard for VA schools. £10 a year is pretty modest actually, though naming and shaming in the school newsletter is a bit steep. Ours does give out reminders, but invites parents who have difficulty paying to contact the school office to discuss.

Voluntary schools only get 85% of the capital costs (building work etc) paid for by the govt, and hav to find the other 15% themselves, hence the need for contributions from parents.

Aaah - feel guilty now for moaning about it at work today! Ten pounds isn't a lot, but I've paid out about fifty quid already this month , what with school trips and PA events.
They don't actually name and shame in the newsletter - give out individual letters to chn of families who haven't paid.

I think ours ask for the same too - £10 a term isn't much though

Ours gives out letters on a regular basis once or twice a term depending on the building projects but never, ever sends reminders about paying but insist that you send a reply that you have seen the letter and it has not been lost or destroyed by child - the children get reminders about the reply slip but never about paying. The head puts in the letter that there is no obligation to pay as he knows that many families do not always have cash to spare.

I know of another faith school in the same town where the chair of governers (extremely rich and famous man) sends reminders about payment
