DD1 is in Jan intake for reception - anything I need to know/buy now?

DD1 will be starting reception class in January. Is there anything I need to know/buy now? For example, what do I need to stock up on? Back to school seems to get earler every year but does it all disappear at Christmas? Will the shops soon be bare of uniform and pumps? (I still bear the scars of trying to buy new sandals in August - hence the paranoia). Have not heard from the school yet either but I presume this is normal.

You can usually get uniform and pumps year round although they have most stock in during the summer hols - Asda/Tesco/Woolies/Matalan should have what you need when you need it.

When you say you haven't heard from the school, what do you mean exactly? DD definitely has a place?

She definitely has a place but I did wonder whether the school rather than the LA would get in touch with term dates, general information etc now. I presume this will happen at some point this term but I will contact them anyway and be paranoid once things have settled down.

You should hear from the school re: term dates etc once they get back next week. If not I'm sure you could ring with any specific questions- they are used to it!
