Hi mums, we've recently moved to Kingston upon Thames, and I am really interested in 2 schools in the area; the first one is Hampton court house, and the other one is Newland House School. Could you please advise which one is better? Any advice is highly appreciated. My son turned 4 in November. Thanks a lot!

They are very different schools and attract different types of parents. NH prepares for 11 or 13 plus, HCH goes all the way through. If you visit you will understand the differences. There are lots of mixed preps nearer to Kingston, try The Study, Weston Green School, Surbiton Prep.

HCH is quite alternative. DCs travel from a long way away, Kensington etc., because they didn't suit main stream schooling. It is genuinely I believe trying to offer something different and if that's what suits your DC then go for it. A visit is a must.
NH is an extremely good traditional mixed prep, great results, great for sports, music etc. You may struggle to get a place.

Many thanks for your answers. We've visited both, but we simply cannot decide. It's true, the teaching system is pretty different, HCH focuses on arts in general (ballet, drama, arts&crafts) whereas NH is more focused towards technology, which is good. What I really liked at HCH is the fact that children are taught phonetics for 25 minutes per week, whereas in NH I haven't been told that. There is one weird aspect on NH, and that's the fact they oblige you to enroll for reception should you wish to enroll for nursery... Which I'm not so pleased about...
I was hoping there are parents who have their kids at the above mentioned schools... Any piece of advice is greatly appreciated.

You need to post on the local Richmond Mumsnet board to get opinions on NH. It's a very sought after prep school & the nursery is new, they wouldn't expect you to enrol in the nursery and not stay for the school hence the double registration. The nursery at Jack and Jill school on Twickenham Green is similar ethos if your current interest is nursery.

Thanks for the tip. I've posted the question there as well.
