I came accross this article (see below) the other day about teachers and their personal life.
abc7news-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/abc7news.com/amp/education/pole-dancing-teacher-suspended-after-video-leaked-to-school/3993253/?amp_js_v=a2&amp_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQHCAFYAYABAQ%3D%3D#referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&ampshare=https%3A%2F%2Fabc7news.com%2Feducation%2Fpole-dancing-teacher-suspended-after-video-leaked-to-school%2F3993253%2F

Do you think it is fair that she got suspended? If there wasn't social media would she have been ok? Just wondered whether any teachers have hobbies that parents or schools might disapprove of? As parents would you expect to see your child's teacher suspended for doing something like pole dancing? I always thought what teachers did in their personal time was up to them - so as long as it isn't illegal or hurting anyone.

Lots of people near me do pole dancing as an exercise, if the video was of her dancing as an art form rather than for money in a seedy club/round a lampost while drunk/in the bedroom for a partner I don't see why its an issue (not that her doing it for a partner is an issue but posting it to facebook would be).

Teachers do need to be careful about posting on facebook though, some parents are judgy and students might see it (depending on the age you work with) and most schools expect staff to be a good role model at all times. In theory a private facebook account should be ok but as she's found out private still means anyone on your friends list can leak things so its best just not to post anything you wouldn't be happy to share with the school.

This is key to me.
If she's done pole fitness as an exercise class then the school are out of order for taking issue with it. It's typical to wear sports crop tops and shorts/bikini bottoms to do the sport and nobody would be sacked for being seen in swimwear at the beach.
If she's been snapped doing erotic pole dancing in sexualized costumes then I can see why it's an issue.
