Good evening all! Moving to Prestwick, Scotland soon. We have 2 daughters who will be in year 10 and 12 next school year. Considering Prestwick Academy or Wellington School. Anyone have any experience with either of them?

Sorry - no experience. You could try asking in the Scotsnet topic.

So your dds will be going in to S3 (the year before they sit Nat 5s - the equivalent of GCSEs) and S5 (the year that they sit Highers - which are the Uni entrance exams, even though most young people now stay on to do S6, either doing more Highers or some Advanced Highers or resitting Nat 5s if required).

Important years Smile

Iirc, South Ayrshire is one of the councils which imposes leaving the Nat 5 choice to the end of S3, so they are still doing a wider range of subjects in S3 and only take 6(?) on to Nat 5 in S4 (some other LAs leave it up to the schools and they make their choices at the end of S2, allowing them to sit up to 8 Nat 5s) There is an advantage in that approach though as there is a wider range of subjects that they can pick up in S6 in which to "crash" a Higher.

I might have mis-remembered that though.

Hi op, my children attend Prestwick Academy. It's a huge school but gets good results. However, if you can afford private school then I would absolutely go for Wellington especially if they are already used to the private sector. I say this due to their ages as I have experience of moving school at 14, then again at 16 and it was not an easy transition. I moved from private to state.
