This may be common knowledge of course but I've only just discovered it and I know people are always looking for them.

They have boys' shirts with short or long sleeves, girls' just with long sleeves I think, and polo shirts - all only in white.

Also boys' trousers but only in black.

They haven't got all sizes on the website, but they are doing 3 for 2 at the moment (I love it that the caption is "Back to School" in June )

Great, isn't it - saved my skin being able to get some cotton trousers before DS1's residential field trip. They do colours other than black and styles other than schoolwear in the shops - or at least I did when I went in there last week

WendyWeber · 19/06/2007 11:02

It is great, I don't know what they haven't done it sooner (they didn't have them this time last year) - it's nice that it's Fairtrade cotton too.

I don't think I'll be buying them though, nice as they are, because DS2 is permanently filthy - he comes home with mud all over his trousers (and often all over his shirt ) and paint all over his shirt on art days, and he is 14 FFS! - and all that seems to wash out of the easy care stuff more easily.

Also despite 3 years of strenuous football at break times his Teflon trousers have never holed and I don't think cotton ones would manage that

M&S have always had all-cotton shirts, although it's sometimes tricky to find them in all sizes. They wash and wear brilliantly - even my 12 year old son can't seem to ruin them! It's good they have the Fairtrade range now too.

What we normally do is go to our nearest M&S shop to try on for sizing, then come home and order online to get the special offers!

Good news 'Wendyweber' - I don't suppose they have 100%cotton gingham dresses??
I wish synthetics were outlawed for kids' uniform as if you have a child with sensitive skin they are a nightmare.

WendyWeber · 19/06/2007 15:32

Not on the website anyway, wms

Cotton Comfort do, and Calico Moon , but you probably know about them already?

Cotton School Uniform

wheresmysuntan · 19/06/2007 17:11

Thanks ww and 'bobsmum' - I know about Cotton Comfort but their dresses are about £17 each so was hoping that M&S might be able to offer something a little cheaper.

sinclair · 19/06/2007 18:01

Thank you thank you thankyou WW - we are getting uniform in Sept and I have been tearing my hair out trying to find cotton or cotton mix stuff - after years of going to school in what we like I am hating the imposition of teflon coated polyester. Will get down to Mthere this week. Wonder if they have skirts too?

eucalyptus · 19/06/2007 21:14

John Lewis have some grey and black ones too.

I am looking for navy - anyone know of any?

WendyWeber · 19/06/2007 21:22

bobsmum's link has them, eucalyptus - ages 4-8 - nearly £20 though. When DS2 was little I got him some very sweet navy cords from Vertbaudet, but I don't know if they still do them and in any case they're not strictly school uniform.

sinclair, no skirts at M&S on the website but it might be worth asking at the store. There was a piece in the Guardian about cotton school uniform in Feb 06 and at that time it said M&S had no cotton uniform at all, so they've obviously checked out the level of interest - worth a nag!

I bought dd's cotton school shirts last August, I had to order them specially. Shame about the awful poly cotton dress she has to wear and the aertex polo shirt ds will have to wear in the summer.

Clary · 22/06/2007 00:56

I feel moved to point out that everyone does cotton polo shirts. Yes indeedy, Asda and Sainsbo's et al

However cotton trews are something different and well worth pursuing.

Also M&S fairtrade cotton sounds good. Am planning a raid next week when 3 for 2 is on.

Come on Sinclair, you know you want to do it!

donnie · 25/06/2007 13:37

I just bought some 100% white cotton school shirts in ASDA for dd. A fiver for a pack of two.

whiskersonkittens · 03/07/2007 13:43

Is it me or are the M&S sizes really small.

I have bought age 7 for my 4 year old and they are none too big on him - I am going to go back and get the age 8 and see what they are like

sinclair · 03/07/2007 18:13

Alas, by the time I got to the M&S website all the 100% cotton trousers in anything approaching DS's size had gone - and it was an internet only offer.

Am now checking email day and night hoping for early alert on the Boden sale - surely good old Johnny can come up with cotton trousers in grey or black?

Skirts meanwhile I or am drawing a complete blank on - any leads anyone on cotton or cotton mix grey or black skirts or shorts?

hoxtonchick · 03/07/2007 18:15

john lewis do cotton trousers. not sure if online though.

sinclair · 04/07/2007 13:55

Thanks HoxtonChick, there wasn't anything online when I last looked, think a trip to London's glittering west end required after all.

MrsCodger · 04/07/2007 13:59

sinclair, skirts here and here

MrsCodger · 04/07/2007 13:59

(oh and trousers as well if you click on the 'boy' links)

sinclair · 04/07/2007 21:44

Thank you so much MrsC, the skirts in particular are lovely, my DD has very low muscle tone (Down's Syndrome) so elastic waists are a must - up to now I have been making a lot of stuff myself - but finding fabric that looks uniform-y v tricky.

MrsBadger · 04/07/2007 21:53

no worries
the eczemaclothing people do uniform fabric as well
