Can anyone tell me the best coed pre-peeps in the Wimbledon area?

If you're looking at a few different areas, you would do well to get the Good Schools Guide (either book or with online subscription). There's a map, so you can see what schools there are in an area, and a really good description of each school - size, gender, ethos, strengths and weaknesses, info about the head, destinations etc.

To answer your question, most pre-preps in Wimbledon are single sex. Hall school in Wimbledon is co-ed, but is a marmite school.

Prospect House in Putney is co-ed.

Thanks for your reply! I find those guides a bit overwhelming and hard to tell the difference between schools, but I should go check it out again - you are right. Only looking in this area. Other post was for a friend :)

Rowans is the only other co-ed pre-prep in Wimbledon that I know of. Ursuline prep is co-ed in nursery but girls only afterwards.

Rowans is co-ed, but with almost all boys since it's mainly chosen to prepare boys for Kings 7+.

Do be wary that some girls schools only a few places actually available at 7+.

  • most have their main intake at 4+ so why not start at the same school?
  • I read recently that WHS is discontinuing it's 7+ intake.
  • LEH starts at 7+ but it's a bit further away, and very selective so not guaranteed by any means.

Less of a problem for boys.

Do you have a girl or boy, OP? Or both very close together? (bear in mind that pre-prep is only 3 years). Is there a reason why you're set on co-ed? I'd recommend keeping an open mind: Wimbledon area has fantastic schools, but mainly single sex.

I have a girl. We prefer coed so that she is in an environment most like what the rest of her life will be like, but if there aren’t many coed schools I guess we need to look at single sex options too. Looking for something from age 3 or 4 to age 11 or 13 when they then move on to a diffeeent school. Any suggestions for schools with good academics but also sports and the arts?

A lot of Wimbledon DCs with parents prefering a co-ed end up being bused up the A3 to Felton Fleet.

Rowans is worth a look but the strongest schools in Wimbledon are single sex. Would you maybe consider single sex for Prep and move mixed later on? I don’t have a DD so can’t comment from personal experience but friends with DDs at Wimbledon High rarely have a bad word to say.

Thanks for the comments. I think we need to consider the single sex schools now too. Will check out Wimbledon High. Any others worth a look?

The Study is very highly regarded, it will also give you a range of options for seniors rather than being tied in till 18.

You could look at Milbourne Lodge but there isn’t an even distribution of girls there and is a long way - even if you are on the right side of Wimbledon - especially for a younger child. Good academics though.
If I were set on co Ed and had no good state option I would go for Prospect House Putney.
If you can reconsider single sex I would say WHS definitely - a smattering of girls tend to move at 11 and have no problem doing so if you decide somewhere else is better suited. Or The Study.

Putney is probably a bit far for you, but if not look at Merlin.

Ok I will. Thanks! :)
