I know the SATs are usually in may, & I think ive read somewhere that KS2 sats are week 12-16th may next year, but what about KS1? is it the same week? Weve never taken the girls out of school before & theyre both doing well & dont have days off here & there like lots of other children. So as a one off we would really like to go away for a week during may because A, its so much cheaper (almost half price) & B, its so much quieter. Do they do the SATs over the course of the month, so if dd wasnt there for a week she could do the tests another time? or is it more rigid than that & if she misses a test she misses a test? I have no intention of letting her miss her SATs. Does anyone know how its worked with the KS1 SATs?

KS1 SATs are in two bits - on-going teacher assessment, which usually has to be finalised by mid-June, and some tests, which can be administered at any time during the school year, but usually before mid-June. They aren't like KS2 SATs which all have to be done in the one week nationally. Some schools choose to do all the KS1 tests in the same week as KS2. Some choose to do them spread over time, which tends to work better as they can be done more subtly without the stress of a focused week.

I think you'll have to ask the school, but be ready for them to say that they don't know yet as some will leave the organisation until nearer the time to see how the class, as a cohort, are doing, if that makes sense.

Thanks gladbag I will ask the school how they usually do it, & prepare to be told off for considering a holiday in term time

My dd is finishing her key stage 1 sats this week, she has doing them since 2 weeks before the half term break. She didn't take her level 2 Maths test because she was sick on the wednesday night and the school rules are that if they are sick they are not allowed back for 48 hours so missed the test on the friday. When I phoned the school they said she could take the level 3 maths test and if she did well she wouldn't need to take level 2, if she struggled with level 3 they would give her level 2 at a later date. I don't think it would go down too well with the school if you took holiday leading up to the sats or during them. If you waited until June they would probably be finished.

Yes, I was going to say that as well about going after half-term in June. Also, after the SATS, schools really seem to wind down, so she won't actually be missing much work

Ill look into it. Thanks
