Are anyone else's DC doing the parallel maths project challenges this term?
parallel.org.uk/
How are they finding them?

Great improvement that you can try all year groups' questions this year.

JustRichmal · 30/09/2018 09:11

Could you tell me what year group it goes up to please?

JustRichmal · 30/09/2018 10:22

Just found out it's years 7 to 9. I wish this had been around when dd was younger.

I just signed up DS with two different email accounts last year, he is doing both year 8 and 9 this year. It says the challenges will get longer after Christmas, I'm hoping they will get more difficult as well.

Question seems to be not too difficult from the scores he got, but that's not a big deal. I see his face light up and saying "oh, this is so cool!" which we don't see often from his school work.
He is getting better score from yr9 than yr7 on some weeks, so, it's clear it's quite inspirational.

Cachailleacha · 30/09/2018 20:42

DS is always keen to do it each week, so he is still enjoying it. He hasn't got any questions wrong yet though.

My ds is definitely getting some wrong. Meaning there's so much more for him to learn!

April2020mom · 30/09/2018 22:32

Is it for primary school children or not?

brilliotic · 30/09/2018 22:49

DS has just started with these.
He does not seem to have access to anything except Y7 questions though (he is in Y4 so that is where he got put automatically).

Also neither he nor I received any e-mail notification when the new week's stuff went live, is this normal or is something perhaps not quite right with our signing in?

user789653241 · 30/09/2018 23:11

That's odd, brilliotic. It was like that for ds last year, he had access to only yr7. This year he can do all three.

We receive e-mail notification every week. I think you should contact Simon.

user789653241 · 30/09/2018 23:14

April, it's for yr7/8/9 children, but they say anyone can join. They say they are also planning to make questions for younger and older children in the future.
It's totally different from school maths. Worth having a go if your dc is keen on maths.

Cachailleacha · 01/10/2018 06:40

Meaning there's so much more for him to learn!
That's what I wanted for DS.

I've also recently discovered brilliant.org which has weekly challenges for older students. I found out about it from watching Numberphiles, on YouTube which is also great for maths.

Cachailleacha · 04/10/2018 18:44

JustRichmal Thanks for the suggestion!
