Would appreciate any views on Tonbridge school. In particular would appreciate hearing your thoughts on being a weekly boarder and sports (especially football, cricket and hockey). How would it compare to Wellington, Harrow, Radley etc in terms of academics? Thanks in advance

Almost all the boys are weekly boarders.

The sport is first class. Big boys school. Attracts lots of sporty boys.

Academically I think they want 70% at CE. That would put it on a par with Wellington and Harrow and above Radley. But not sure how well they do on Oxbridge. I think numbers may have been disappointing this year.

Harrow is full boarding. Wellington has many who go home at weekends.

Tonbridge not as snooty as Harrow (imo)

Sporting opportunities are amazing. Numbers are not as good as this year I’ve heard.

Irregardless visit the school during an actual school day with your child in tow. Observe the children in a actual lesson. Read the inspection report on the school. Check out the website too. Make sure that you have a list of questions to ask. If you find any questionable information double check. Curriculum booklets are another good source of information.

Talk with the children and teachers in addition. Listen to the gossip about the school. Pay attention to your gut feeling. Ask for copies of any school policies.
