Scottish school system confusion

Can someone kindly help me work this out. Looking to move from England to Scotland with
ds1 (6 - July birthday, about to go into year 2),
ds2 (4 - Jan birthday, about to go into reception),
and dd3 (2 - December birthday, will get 15 hour funding in January).

Will one of the boys jump up a year... and ds2 miss a year?! Would dd3 still get 15 hour funding?

Thanks :)

Your eldest son will go into primary two. Your youngest son will go into primary one, though with a January birthday you could defer him until next August and still have a nursery place. Your daughter is too young for nursery. (Term after they turn three I think) ante-pre school first, then pre-school then primary one. With a December birthday you could defer her entry to P1 as well but no guarantee of a nursery place (only Jan, Feb and Mar can still get pre school places and that probably depends on numbers and local authority).

I think DS1 will go down a year?

With a July birthday you son will be one of the oldest in his year group (admission year runs April to March) unless there is a cohort of children who deferred. The December and Jan birthdays will be amongst the youngest.

Sorry year runs 1 Mar to end Feb!

I wouldn't defer.

Deferring is entirely up to you but I think you have greater options open to you than in the English system. I know great examples of both (deferred and not) so couldn't comment.
