PTA question

Hi All, I’d really appreciate some advice. A senior member of our PTFA called me one evening recently and absolutely laid into me, swearing like i’ve never experienced (lots of f’s and c’s) and then threatened my safety. This was apparently provoked by a question I’d posted on a PTFA social media page. How do I deal with this? The senior PTFA person seems to think that the school can’t do anything about it, but that can’t be right? Naturally, this has caused me and my partner a lot of distress and has made being the in school for drop off and pick up very uncomfortable. Thank you all very much in advance for your advice and support. X

What on earth did you say on the PTFA page? Confused

When you say senior member, is he/she the Chair? I'd go to the headteacher, no school is going to want that going on.
If you feel really threatened, I would go to the police.

In some respects the other person involved is correct, in that any PTA should be operating as a charity outside the control of the school and therefore will not be able to directly intervene in any dispute.
Having said that there is nothing going to kill off an active PTA quicker than an internal squabble about who did or said what, so I am sure that the head teacher of the school will want to know what was said, so they can try and mediate.
I do also wonder what you have said to get the kind of response that you have posted. I note it was on social media and wonder whether you would have posed the question in the way you did if it was face to face to somebody?

report to the police

That sounds awful. To be honest, I think that this was connected to the PTFA is a bit of a red herring - you posted (what sounds like) an innocuous request and then were threatened.

Do you have a record (even your own notes) of what they said? If you were actually threatened then, yes, I would speak to the police.
