I need some advise, my son (15) year 10 has recently had 6 months out of main stream education, although has still been doing Maths and English, I have now got him back into a mainstream school that he has been at for 3 months, but they would only take him in Year 9 as he had 6 months out. he has sat tests and has been put into the top sets in year 9 however, he still wants to sit his GCSE's next May with the current year 10's soon to be year 11's, can the school stop him, if they can is there anything or anywhere i can take him to sit his GCSE's, Thank you in advance

Why does he want to do them next year? He'd get much better grades staying in year 9 and taking with them.

Our year 10s are half way through their GCSE courses in terms of content.

Yes they can not enter him. You could pay to enter him as a private candidate but with only half the knowledge he will get so very well at all. Alternatively you could Home educate him with a few GCSE but from your post it does not sound like this is a good idea either.

He will have only studied half the course though

Of course they can stop him! They won't enter him as he won't have finished the courses. Why does he want to do them when he's only done have the courses?
